Pampanga — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has announced the upcoming construction of a ₱30-million fish port in the Second District of Pampanga, bringing good news to local fisherfolk and coastal communities.

BFAR Regional Director Wilfredo M. Cruz shared the development during his courtesy visit to Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda. According to BFAR, preparations are now underway for the establishment of the fish port, which is scheduled for implementation within the year.

The fish port will be constructed in the municipality of Lubao, strategically located with fast access to the coastal barangays of Sasmuan. This location is expected to improve fishery operations, enhance market access, and boost the livelihood of local fisherfolk.

In support of this initiative, the Provincial Government of Pampanga is also set to request the establishment of a cold storage facility to help fishermen properly preserve and market their catch, ensuring better income opportunities.

Additionally, BFAR, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Pampanga, will distribute approximately ₱5 million worth of assistance this year. This includes tilapia fingerlings, fishing paraphernalia, and fish processing tools to further strengthen the province’s fisheries sector.

These initiatives underscore the continued commitment of BFAR and the Provincial Government of Pampanga to improve fisheries infrastructure and promote sustainable livelihoods for Kapampangan fisherfolk.
