ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — Volunteers from various organizations and local communities came together today, March 21, 2026, in Barangay Pampang to celebrate World Water Day through a renewed commitment to clean and protect the Abacan River.

The clean-up drive gathered representatives from the Balibago Waterworks System, Inc. (BWSI), Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), Soliman E.C., Nagkaka-isang Guardians, the 303rd Battalion (Reserve Army), the Abacan River and Angeles Watershed Advocacy Council, Inc. (ARAW-ACI), along with Barangay Pampang Captain Carlos Dela Cruz, local officials, and community volunteers.

The Abacan sustainable clean-up campaign, which began on April 22, 2025, continues to gain momentum with regular clean-up activities held every third Saturday of the month. The initiative reflects a growing movement dedicated to restoring and preserving one of Angeles City’s vital waterways.

Organizers emphasized that the campaign goes beyond removing waste. It aims to promote water conservation, encourage stronger community involvement, and raise awareness about the importance of protecting natural water resources. Volunteers also reminded residents to refrain from dumping garbage into the river, highlighting the long-term environmental impact of improper waste disposal.

The ongoing effort underscores the power of collective action in safeguarding the Abacan River for future generations. As World Water Day serves as a global reminder of water’s value, the volunteers’ continued dedication stands as a testament to what communities can achieve when united for a common cause.
