SUBIC, ZAMBALES — The Department of Health (DOH) Region III recently conducted an inspection of the ongoing construction at Subic General Hospital in Barangay Asinan Proper, as preparations begin for its upcoming turnover to the national health agency.

The site visit was led by DOH Regional Director Dr. Corazon Flores, MPH, CESO IV, Zambales 1st District Representative Jay Khonghun, and Subic Mayor Jonathan Khonghun, together with officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Dr. Flores emphasized the importance of the inspection to ensure the facility meets DOH standards. “This inspection allows us to assess the readiness of the hospital and identify the steps needed for a smooth and timely turnover,” she said.

Once turned over, the hospital will undergo a phased capacity-building program, including hiring additional staff, expanding services, and upgrading facilities, aiming to achieve Level 3 status within two to three years. This phased approach ensures safe, high-quality healthcare in full compliance with legal and regulatory standards.

Following the inspection, the agencies held a coordination meeting to finalize plans for the hospital’s turnover. Once operational, Subic General Hospital will become the first DOH-managed hospital in Zambales.

Congressman Jay Khonghun highlighted the significance of inter-agency collaboration. “This hospital is a major milestone for healthcare in our province. By working together, we are bringing quality medical services closer to our people,” he said.

Mayor Jonathan Khonghun expressed optimism about the hospital’s impact. “The Subic General Hospital will significantly improve healthcare access for our constituents and neighboring towns once it opens,” he added.

The turnover is targeted before the end of the year, with hospital operations expected to begin next year. The DOH reaffirmed its commitment to providing efficient, high-quality, and compassionate healthcare to the public.
