San Narciso, Zambales – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) joined fellow state workers, volunteer groups, and local stakeholders in Zambales in celebrating the Salakniban Festival, an initiative that highlights the protection and conservation of marine turtles.

As part of the celebration, personnel from the DENR Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office–Zambales and the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office–Olongapo City conducted an information drive on pawikan conservation, encouraging coastal communities to actively support programs that help sustain marine turtle populations.

The DENR also took part in the release of 130 marine turtle hatchlings at a designated nesting site in San Narciso, Zambales.

DENR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo emphasized that protecting marine turtles is a shared responsibility. He noted that through strong community participation and sustained conservation efforts, future generations will continue to see pawikan thrive in the country’s coastal waters. (DENR Central Luzon)
