Authorities from the Philippine National Police (PNP) successfully recovered a cache of firearms, ammunition, and explosives in Barangay Bugnan, Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija on March 20, 2026, as part of sustained efforts to suppress criminal and insurgent activities in the region.

The operation was launched following actionable intelligence provided by a former member of a Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) who surrendered to authorities on March 12, 2026. Acting on the information, joint police units from the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office (NEPPO), including the 1st and 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Companies, along with personnel from local police stations, conducted a focused internal security operation from March 18 to 20.

Recovered during the operation were two unmarked .38 caliber revolvers; assorted ammunition, including rounds for 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm firearms; magazines for a 5.56 mm rifle and an M14 rifle; and several explosive devices. Among these were three 40mm high-explosive grenades, a hand grenade, and a rifle grenade, along with materials believed to be components for improvised explosive devices.

All firearms and ammunition have been secured and documented by the NEPPO 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company. The explosive materials will be turned over to the Nueva Ecija Provincial Explosives and Canine Unit for proper handling and safe disposal.

PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., emphasized the importance of intelligence-driven operations and public cooperation in maintaining peace and order.

“This successful recovery highlights the critical role of timely information and the support of our communities in preventing potential threats,” he said. “The PNP remains steadfast in its mission to protect lives and ensure the safety of every Filipino.”

The operation aligns with the PNP’s Enhanced Managing Police Operations framework and supports the national government’s directive to strengthen internal security and public safety. It also reinforces the organization’s commitment to delivering responsive, honest, and community-centered policing under its Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas campaign.
