OLONGAPO CITY — In observance of National Flag Day 2026, SM City Olongapo Central and SM City Olongapo Downtown conducted a solemn morning flag-raising ceremony on May 28, officially marking the start of the nationwide Independence Day countdown.
Mall management, tenant partners, security personnel, and agency staff gathered at the perimeter area and ground level of the malls to witness the ceremonial unfurling of the Philippine flag, symbolizing patriotism, unity, and national pride.
The observance commemorates the historic first unfurling of the Philippine flag during the 1898 Battle of Alapan, a defining moment in the country’s struggle for independence. Through the ceremony, SM Malls in Olongapo reaffirmed their support for preserving Filipino heritage and honoring the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes.
As part of the celebration, the Philippine flag and national colors will remain prominently displayed throughout both malls until Independence Day on June 12, serving as a reminder of the country’s rich history and enduring spirit of freedom.
The annual observance also encourages the community to reflect on the values of unity, patriotism, and shared responsibility in nation-building.
