SAN MARCELINO, Zambales — For 22 Zambaleños who have lost their limbs, June 8 marked more than just the receipt of a medical device—it signified a renewed opportunity to walk, work, and live more independently.
Through the Leg Prosthesis Handover Program conducted at the San Marcelino District Hospital (SMDH), beneficiaries received free prosthetic legs and arms under a pioneering initiative aimed at improving mobility and quality of life for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the province.

Governor Jun Ebdane personally attended the event and reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to inclusive healthcare and social services, particularly for vulnerable sectors of society.
The program is the first of its kind in Zambales and utilizes advanced prosthetic technology from Japan through Instalimb Solutions Philippines Inc. Led by Regional Manager Jessie Jusayan, along with Vince Carmona and Erika Cataina, the team worked closely with beneficiaries who underwent a series of consultations, measurements, and fittings over a four-month period before receiving their customized prosthetic limbs.
According to hospital officials, the initiative was made possible through the leadership of Dr. Cresencio T. Gonzales, Chief of Hospital of SMDH, and the collaborative efforts of the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region III, the Office of 2nd District Representative Doris “Nanay Bing” Maniquiz, and the Provincial Government of Zambales.

The turnover ceremony was also attended by Edwin Mertola, representative of Congresswoman Maniquiz; San Antonio Mayor Dr. Arvin Antipolo; Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office Officer-in-Charge Nadya T. Apostol; and Executive Assistant to the Governor Larraine B. Rico.
Beyond providing assistive devices, the program highlights the importance of accessible healthcare and community support for persons living with disabilities. For many of the recipients, the prosthetic limbs represent a chance to regain mobility, pursue livelihood opportunities, and participate more actively in their communities.
Provincial officials expressed gratitude to all partners and stakeholders who helped bring the project to fruition, noting that the initiative reflects a shared commitment to delivering meaningful services that uplift the lives of Zambaleños.
As beneficiaries took their first steps with their new prosthetic limbs, the event served as a powerful reminder that compassionate governance, innovation, and partnership can create life-changing opportunities for those who need them most. (Zambales for the People)
