BALANGA CITY (PIA) — A local cashew enterprise in Bataan is set to expand its production capacity and improve product quality following technology upgrading support from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Bugay’s Food Products, known for its assorted flavored cashew nuts, cashew and peanut butter, cashew jam, and other value-added cashew-based products, received funding assistance under DOST’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).
The support allows the enterprise to acquire essential equipment, including a one-deck oven, colloid mill, labeling printer, and stainless steel table, to enhance its operations.
Through initiatives like SETUP, the national government aims to foster inclusive economic growth by helping local enterprises increase productivity, strengthen competitiveness, and promote sustainability.
DOST Bataan Provincial Science and Technology Director Catalina De Leon-Cruz highlighted the agency’s commitment to empowering local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by promoting innovation through science and technology.
“This assistance is meant to help Bugay’s Food Products improve its production process and maintain consistent product quality as the business grows. Through SETUP, we continue to support local enterprises by providing access to appropriate technologies that can help them become more efficient, competitive, and sustainable,” De Leon-Cruz said.
SETUP, a flagship program of DOST, provides MSMEs with process improvement, product enhancement, technical consultancy, and human resource development to help them become more productive, competitive, and resilient. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Bataan)
