MARIVELES, Bataan — Reinforcing its commitment to community resilience and youth empowerment, AboitizPower, through its private limited partnerships GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD), partnered with the Municipal Government of Mariveles in equipping 65 youth volunteers with life-saving emergency response skills during a two-day Standard First Aid training held in observance of National Disaster Resilience Month.
The training, conducted by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) on July 1 and 2 at Romalaines Seafood Restaurant in Barangay Alas-asin, formed part of the company’s continuing corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness in host communities.
Implemented in collaboration with the Local Youth Development Council (LYDC) of Mariveles, the program brought together youth leaders from various organizations to develop practical first aid competencies and emergency response capabilities that can be immediately applied during accidents, disasters, and other emergencies.
MDRRMO trainers demonstrate proper body mechanics and spine-board lifting techniques during a victim-transfer simulation.
MDRRMO trainers provided participants with hands-on exercises and classroom instruction on primary and secondary emergency care, patient assessment, wound management, and other essential life-saving interventions that can help stabilize victims while waiting for professional medical responders.
To further encourage community readiness, each participant received a First Aid kit and a reusable tumbler, enabling them to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice within their respective barangays and youth organizations.
The initiative reflects the shared commitment of the local government and AboitizPower to build resilient communities by investing in the capabilities of young volunteers, recognizing that disaster preparedness begins with empowered citizens equipped to respond during emergencies.
“Sa bawat kabataang natutong magbigay ng tamang paunang lunas, mas marami tayong buhay na maaaring mailigtas,” the MDRRMO Mariveles said in a Facebook post, underscoring the vital role of youth in emergency response.
