CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — Police units across Central Luzon continue to assist communities affected by flooding and heavy rains brought by Typhoon Maymay and the Southwest Monsoon, the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) said Sunday.
PRO3 Director Police Brig. Gen. Jess B. Mendez directed provincial and city police offices to sustain disaster response operations and comply with the PNP Critical Incident Management Operational Procedures (CIMOP).
As of Aug. 9, consolidated reports from PRO3 units and the Office of Civil Defense Region 3 showed that 618 families or 2,039 individuals were staying in 46 evacuation centers across Central Luzon.
Flooding was reported in at least 132 barangays in Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales. Eight roads in Bulacan and one in Pampanga remained impassable, along with one bridge in Bulacan.
Police units have been involved in search and rescue operations, evacuation assistance, relief distribution, and other humanitarian response activities in coordination with local government units and concerned agencies.
Mendez said police personnel and resources would remain available in affected areas to assist communities for as long as necessary.
“Our priority remains the safety of our people,” Mendez said, adding that police units would continue supporting rescue, evacuation, relief, and other disaster response efforts.
He also reminded residents in affected areas to remain alert, follow government safety and evacuation advisories, avoid flooded and impassable roads, and immediately seek assistance when necessary.
The continuing operations form part of the PNP Focused Agenda on strengthening operational readiness and ensuring responsive police service during emergencies and calamities. (Jason de Asis)
