NEW CLARK CITY, Tarlac — The National Academy of Sports (NAS) has broken ground for its Student-Athletes’ Dormitory, a major campus expansion project that will provide the country’s next generation of athletes with a dedicated home to study, train, recover and pursue excellence in sports.
Led by NAS Executive Director Assoc. Prof. Francis Carlos Diaz, the groundbreaking marks the third phase of the NAS campus expansion in New Clark City, further strengthening the institution’s facilities and support system for Filipino student-athletes.
The 12,220-square-meter dormitory will accommodate up to 400 student-athletes and will feature a dining hall and kitchen, laundry and utility areas, recreational spaces, and a roof deck. The facility is targeted for completion and operation by 2027.
The BCDA Group, led by President and CEO Joshua M. Bingcang, joined NAS officials and board members during the groundbreaking ceremony, underscoring the government’s continuing efforts to build world-class facilities that support the development of Filipino athletes.
Also present were NAS Board members CHED Commissioner Desiderio R. Apag III, representing Chairperson Shirley Agrupis; DepEd Undersecretary Malcolm S. Garma, representing Secretary Sonny Angara; and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairperson Patrick “Pato” Gregorio.
“With this project, our student-athletes will have more time for their studies and greater focus on their sports programs,” Bingcang said.
The new dormitory is designed to provide student-athletes with a more conducive environment where they can balance their academic responsibilities with intensive sports training. By housing athletes within the campus, the facility is expected to improve their access to training, nutrition, recovery and other essential support services.
Beyond providing accommodation, the project is envisioned to become an important component of the NAS ecosystem, helping student-athletes develop the discipline and skills needed both inside and outside the sporting arena.
The dormitory forms part of the broader expansion of the NAS campus in New Clark City, supporting the government’s goal of creating stronger pathways for young Filipinos who aspire to compete at the national and international levels.
The initiative is also aligned with the Marcos Jr. administration’s commitment to advancing Philippine sports development through investments in modern training environments, athlete welfare and stronger institutional support.
As the dormitory rises, the NAS campus moves closer to becoming a comprehensive home for student-athletes—one where young champions can pursue their education, sharpen their skills and prepare for bigger stages in Philippine sports.
