BALANGA CITY, Bataan — The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) joined the provincial coordination, assessment and identification of priority areas for the localized implementation of Oplan Kontra Baha held on Sept. 3–4 at The Bunker in Balanga City.
The two-day meeting brought together representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Provincial Government of Bataan, local government units and other concerned agencies to discuss flooding concerns, proposed dredging activities and possible interventions in priority areas across the province.
The participating agencies also aligned their respective plans and identified areas requiring coordinated action to strengthen flood mitigation efforts.
Oplan Kontra Baha is a national multi-agency program aimed at addressing flooding through a comprehensive approach, including the clearing and desilting of waterways, improvement of drainage systems and implementation of long-term interventions suited to the conditions of each locality.
AFAB provided relevant information and raised concerns affecting the Freeport and surrounding areas as part of the assessment and planning process.
The agency said its participation underscores its commitment to continued coordination with government agencies in implementing measures that could help protect communities, access routes, public infrastructure and economic activities from the impact of flooding.
