CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — Police arrested eight suspects and recovered firearms, explosives and suspected illegal drugs after foiling an alleged robbery at a pawnshop in Santa Ignacia, Tarlac, on September 4, 2026.
Santa Ignacia police responded at about 10:30 a.m. after the establishment’s alarm system along Romulo Highway in Barangay Poblacion West was activated and the incident was reported through the 911 emergency hotline.
Upon reaching the area, responding officers discovered an opening near the establishment’s roll-up door. Initial investigation indicated that the suspects allegedly gained entry by passing through the highway drainage system.
A follow-up operation led to the arrest of five suspects who were allegedly attempting to escape through the same drainage system.
Further investigation led police to three other alleged accomplices who were reportedly waiting aboard an Isuzu Elf truck in Barangay Poblacion East. They were subsequently arrested during a hot pursuit operation.

Police Regional Office 3 Director Brig. Gen. Jess B. Mendez said the swift police response prevented the alleged robbery and resulted in the recovery of weapons and explosive devices that could have posed a threat to the community.
“Our personnel acted quickly on the information they received, preventing the crime and apprehending all eight suspects. The recovery of firearms and explosive devices also prevented these from posing further danger to our communities. This is the kind of quick and decisive police response that we want our people to feel,” Mendez said.
PRO3 said the incident highlights the importance of timely reporting, functioning security systems and immediate police response in preventing crimes and protecting businesses and communities.
The eight suspects are facing appropriate legal proceedings as PRO3 continues its intensified anti-criminality operations in support of the PNP’s commitment to deliver “Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.” (Jason de Asis)
