Naval Operating Base, Subic, Zambales — The Philippines and Denmark celebrated a significant milestone in their bilateral relations with the ceremonial launch of the commemorative logo marking 80 years of diplomatic ties, held at a Philippine Navy base in Subic.
The event brought together key representatives from both nations, highlighting a partnership rooted in shared values, maritime cooperation, and a common vision for a sustainable and rules-based future.
His Excellency Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin, Ambassador of Denmark to the Philippines, emphasized the historical foundations of the relationship, noting that Denmark was among the first nations to recognize the Philippines following World War II. Both countries were founding members of the United Nations, united in their commitment to peace and international cooperation.
“Although separated by vast oceans, we share strong connections and common interests. Over the years, we have seen remarkable progress in economic cooperation, maritime engagement, and people-to-people ties,” Ambassador Mellbin said.
Representing the Philippine Navy, Rear Admiral Juario Marayag highlighted the shared maritime identity of both nations, underscoring the importance of cooperation in ensuring safe, secure, and open seas.
“This occasion is more than the unveiling of a symbol—it is a reaffirmation of a relationship anchored on mutual respect, shared values, and a common vision for peace, stability, and cooperation,” he said.
“The seas connect us. They sustain livelihoods, enable trade, and support the prosperity of our nations. Ensuring maritime security requires trust, cooperation, and shared resolve among like-minded partners.”

From the diplomatic front, Director Ferdinand Flores of the Office of European Affairs, Department of Foreign Affairs, conveyed the message of the Philippine Ambassador to Denmark and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties.
“With the theme ‘Partners for a Sustainable Future,’ this milestone reflects not only the longevity of our relations but the enduring friendship and mutual respect that have defined our partnership since 1946,” Flores said.
He highlighted the evolution of Philippines–Denmark relations into a multifaceted partnership encompassing maritime cooperation, trade and investment, renewable energy, and people-to-people exchanges.

The commemorative logo, unveiled during the ceremony, symbolizes not only eight decades of diplomatic engagement but also a shared commitment to future collaboration—particularly in sustainable development, maritime security, and economic growth.
All speakers expressed optimism that the milestone will serve as a springboard for deeper cooperation in the years ahead.
“As we celebrate this milestone, we look forward with determination to expanding our partnership, strengthening resilience against global challenges, and fostering innovation for the benefit of future generations,” Flores said.
