OLONGAPO CITY – A tragic incident involving two young children occurred on the afternoon of April 8, 2026, after they were found unconscious inside an abandoned vehicle in Barangay Barretto.
Authorities identified the victims as Gabriel, 4, who was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, and Steven, also 4, who was initially placed under medical observation but later died. Both are residents of Abra Street, Barangay Barretto.
Initial investigation revealed that the children were last seen playing in a vacant lot along Rizal Street corner Abra Street, where a junked Mitsubishi Lancer was parked. A 10-year-old cousin of the victims later discovered them unconscious on the rear passenger seat of the abandoned vehicle.
The witness immediately sought help from a nearby worker, who assisted in removing the children from the car and contacting emergency responders. Personnel from the Barangay Barretto Fire and Rescue then transported the victims to James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Despite immediate efforts to revive them, Gabriel was declared dead on arrival, while Steven was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident and are urging parents and guardians to closely monitor children and keep them away from hazardous areas, including abandoned vehicles.
