Subic, Zambales — The coastal community of Barangay Calapandayan once again staged its annual “Karakol sa Dagat” on Sunday, May 10, as part of the barangay fiesta celebration dedicated to San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers and fishermen.
The traditional fluvial procession drew fishermen, devotees, and residents who joined in prayer and thanksgiving for abundant harvests and safe voyages at sea.

Two brightly decorated boats adorned with colorful flags sailed simultaneously across Subic Bay from the shores of Calapandayan, symbolizing the community’s enduring faith and unity.
Barangay officials led the procession alongside the Olongapo City Marching Band, whose musical performances added festivity to the religious activity.
To ensure the safety of all participants, personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard were deployed throughout the event to monitor the procession and maintain maritime security.
The Karakol sa Dagat is held every May as a long-standing tradition and vow of gratitude among local fishermen for blessings received and protection while at sea.
Local indigenous vendors also joined the celebration by selling affordable fruits and vegetables, adding livelihood opportunities and a festive market atmosphere to the annual event. (Juan Deveratorda, Subic Public Information Office)
