MANILA — Malacañang has officially declared Wednesday, May 27, 2026, a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice, one of the most significant celebrations in Islam.

The declaration was made through Proclamation No. 1264 signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and released by the Office of the President on May 21, 2026.

Under the proclamation, the holiday observance follows Republic Act No. 9849, which declared the 10th day of Zhul Hijja, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, as a national holiday for Eid’l Adha with a movable date.

The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos recommended the observance of Eid’l Adha on May 27, 2026, based on the 1447 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar.

Malacañang said the declaration aims to allow the Muslim community across the country to properly observe and celebrate the religious occasion, while also promoting cultural understanding and solidarity among Filipinos.

Eid’l Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God and is considered one of the two greatest feasts in Islam.

The proclamation was signed by Acting Executive Secretary Ralph G. Recto by authority of the President.
