NAVAL STATION JOSE ANDRADA, Manila -The Philippine Navy formally christened the BRP Rajah Lakandula (PS21) during a ceremony held on May 26, 2026, at Quay 7 of the Naval Operating Base–Subic in Zambales, highlighting the service’s continuing naval modernization efforts amid evolving maritime challenges.
The event formed part of the Navy’s 128th Anniversary celebration and was attended by military officials, Navy personnel, and guests led by Rear Admiral Joe Anthony C. Orbe, commander of the Philippine Fleet, who served as keynote speaker.
In his address, Rear Admiral Orbe underscored the significance of the vessel’s unveiling, saying the ship symbolizes the Navy’s commitment to strengthening maritime defense and ensuring readiness in protecting the country’s territorial waters.
“Today’s unveiling of the ship’s name and bow number represents more than identity – it represents purpose. It reflects the continuing modernization of the Philippine Navy and our resolve to build a force that is more capable, responsive, and prepared to protect our maritime domain,” Orbe said.
The ceremony officially revealed the ship’s name and bow number, signifying its formal integration into the Philippine Navy fleet and its future operational role in maritime security and defense missions.
Rear Admiral Orbe also expressed confidence that BRP Rajah Lakandula would become a symbol of courage, dedication, and patriotism among Filipino sailors.
“As we formally christen BRP Rajah Lakandula (PS21), may she sail with honor, strength, and purpose. May she serve as a symbol of courage, dedication, and national pride for generations of Filipino sailors to come,” he added.

The BRP Rajah Lakandula (PS21) is part of the Rajah-Sulayman-class Offshore Patrol Vessel fleet designed to enhance the Navy’s capability to respond to maritime threats, safeguard national waters, and support humanitarian and security operations.
The Philippine Navy said the addition of the vessel reflects its continuing efforts to establish a modern, multi-capable, self-reliant, and credible naval force dedicated to protecting the country’s maritime interests.
