CLARK, Pampanga — The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) has strengthened its environmental leadership after receiving the Best Ecological Solid Waste Management Practices award during the Environmental Summit 2026 held on August 19 at the Royce Hotel and Casino in Clark, Pampanga.
The award, presented by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Region 3, recognizes the SBMA’s sustained efforts to promote effective solid waste management and environmentally responsible practices within the Subic Bay Freeport.
The recognition highlights the work of the SBMA Ecology Center in implementing programs designed to reduce waste, improve resource recovery, and encourage sustainable practices among businesses, communities, and other stakeholders in the Freeport.

SBMA Senior Deputy Administrator for the Regulatory Group Amethya dela Llana said the recognition affirms the agency’s continuing commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Environmental Management Bureau Region 3. This achievement inspires us to continue pushing forward with sustainable waste management solutions that benefit the community and the environment alike,” dela Llana said.
The SBMA has pursued various ecological solid waste management initiatives through the Ecology Center, working in partnership with Freeport locators, businesses, community stakeholders, government agencies, and environmental organizations.
These initiatives support the agency’s broader efforts to promote a circular economy, where waste is minimized and materials are recovered, reused, and diverted from disposal whenever possible.
The award also reflects the collective efforts of the SBMA and its stakeholders in maintaining the environmental quality of the Subic Bay Freeport, which remains an important economic and tourism hub in Central Luzon.
The agency expressed its appreciation to its partners and stakeholders for their continued cooperation in implementing environmental programs and ensuring compliance with responsible waste management practices.
The SBMA said the recognition will encourage the Ecology Center to further improve its programs, strengthen stakeholder participation, and pursue innovative approaches to waste reduction and resource conservation.
