OLONGAPO CITY — The city government is marking the 10th anniversary of Making Riverth Possible (MRP) with a series of environmental activities aimed at mobilizing residents and volunteers to help protect Olongapo’s rivers, coastline and other natural resources.
The anniversary program will run from September through October and will feature tree planting, coastal cleanup, an eco-art activity, a recyclable regatta, an underwater cleanup and a river run.
The activities will begin with tree planting on Sept. 12, followed by a coastal cleanup on Sept. 19, with the city government inviting residents, civic groups, environmental organizations and other volunteers to participate.
An eco-art activity dubbed “Show Your Creativity in Eco Art” is scheduled for Sept. 23, followed by the Recyclable Regatta on Sept. 26.
Scuba divers will take part in “Dive for the Ocean” on Sept. 30, while the anniversary activities will culminate in the Olongapo River Run on Oct. 4.
Mayor Atty. Rolen Paulino Jr. said the 10th anniversary of MRP provides an opportunity to strengthen public involvement in environmental protection and sustain efforts to keep the city’s waterways and coastal areas clean.
“This 10th anniversary is an opportunity for us to bring our people together and strengthen our commitment to environmental protection. Through these activities, we hope to inspire more Olongapeños to take part in keeping our coastlines, rivers and communities clean and sustainable,” Paulino said.
The city government said the anniversary activities are designed not only to commemorate a decade of MRP but also to encourage broader community participation in environmental initiatives.
The program puts particular emphasis on rivers and waterways, with activities extending from upstream environmental protection and tree planting to coastal and marine conservation.
City officials are encouraging residents and organizations to take part in the various activities as Olongapo marks a decade of Making Riverth Possible.
