SM City Cabanatuan and SM Megacenter Cabanatuan successfully participated in the 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) 2026 on September 10, 2026, as part of their continuing commitment to emergency preparedness, disaster resilience, and the safety of their employees, tenants, affiliates, security personnel, housekeeping staff, and customers.
The earthquake drill officially started at 2:00 PM, simulating strong ground shaking. Following the simulated earthquake, evacuation procedures commenced, with participants orderly proceeding to designated assembly areas.
The evacuation included a simulated scenario involving four casualties. Emergency response procedures were then carried out to assess the readiness and coordination of the mall’s internal teams and external emergency responders.
A fire truck and personnel from the Cabanatuan City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) responded to the drill, while an ambulance and team from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and personnel from the Traffic Management Division (TMD) also provided support during the exercise.
Hundreds of participants took part in the exercise including employees, agency personnel, tenants and customers. The successful conduct of the NSED highlights SM’s continued efforts to strengthen its emergency response capabilities and ensure that personnel are familiar with proper evacuation and disaster-response procedures.
It also demonstrated the importance of coordination among mall management and emergency response agencies during disasters.
Through regular drills such as the NSED, SM reinforces its culture of preparedness and helps ensure that appropriate safety measures and response protocols are in place should an actual earthquake or other emergency occur.
