MORONG, Bataan — Morong marked its 419th founding anniversary on October 12 with religious processions, cultural performances and community activities highlighting the town’s heritage and devotion to its patroness, Nuestra Señora del Pilar.

The celebration coincided with the town fiesta and the second anniversary of the Kanlungan Festival, which showcases Morong’s religious traditions, cultural identity and community spirit.

Among the festival’s highlights was the naval or fluvial procession on October 10, when local government personnel and devotees joined the sea procession from the waters off Nagbalayong toward Binaritan Bridge to pay homage to the town’s patroness.

The procession underscored the importance of faith and religious traditions in bringing residents together in celebration of their shared heritage.

On October 9, the Morong Town Plaza hosted Kultura sa Tanghalan, featuring performances by the Morong Folklorique Bayanihan Philippine Dance Troupe, Magbukun Tribe and Teatro de Suli.

Through dance, music and theater, the participating groups showcased local traditions, indigenous heritage and the town’s artistic talent. The program also highlighted efforts to preserve cultural practices and pass them on to future generations.

Mayor Leila G. Linao-Muñoz declared October 12 a work holiday for municipal government offices through Executive Order No. 47, series of 2026, while directing that essential public services remain available.

For public and private schools, requests for class suspensions were required to go through the appropriate Department of Education district office and comply with existing rules.

The annual celebration provides an opportunity for Morong residents to honor their religious traditions, revisit the town’s history and strengthen community ties.

With its combination of faith, culture and local heritage, Kanlungan Festival continues to serve as a platform for promoting Morong’s identity and unity.
