DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Zambales reinforced its commitment to developing competitive fisheries-based enterprises by conducting a learning mission on gourmet bangus processing on July 29, 2026 at Eldica Seafood Processing and the Dagupan Seafood Processing Complex in Dagupan City.
The initiative brought together DTI Zambales officials led by Provincial Director Enrique D. Tacbad, Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) Focal Person Andy Bactad, and Negosyo Center Business Counselor John Lloyd M. Topaz, in partnership with DTI Pangasinan. Members of the Lucapon Fisherfolk Association participated as the primary beneficiaries, with support from the Zambales Diversified Metals Corporation (ZDMC).
The learning mission aimed to equip local fisherfolk with advanced knowledge and practical skills in gourmet bangus processing, enabling them to diversify their product offerings, improve quality standards, and increase the market value of their fishery products. Participants observed industry best practices in seafood processing, product development, food safety, packaging, and value addition—key components in building sustainable and market-driven enterprises.
According to DTI Zambales Provincial Director Enrique D. Tacbad, the activity forms part of its continuing efforts to strengthen micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through technology transfer, capacity building, and strategic collaboration with government and private sector partners. By exposing local producers to successful processing models, the agency aims to enhance productivity, promote innovation, and expand market opportunities for fisheries-based businesses in Zambales.
The initiative also highlights the importance of cross-provincial knowledge exchange in accelerating rural enterprise development and improving the competitiveness of local industries. Through sustained partnerships and enterprise development programs, DTI Zambales continues to support inclusive economic growth by empowering fisherfolk organizations to create higher-value products, generate increased income, and contribute to the long-term development of the province’s fisheries sector.
