SAN MARCELINO, Zambales — Residents of Sitio Oit in Barangay Sta. Fe celebrated the inauguration of a new covered court on Sunday, May 17, alongside the official opening of the Sta. Fe Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Cup.

The inauguration ceremony was led by San Marcelino Mayor Elvis Ragadio Soria together with Barangay Sta. Fe officials headed by Punong Barangay Rico Diego Arquero. The project forms part of the municipal government’s continuing efforts to strengthen community infrastructure and improve public facilities in the barangays.

For decades, Sitio Oit had no dedicated covered court. Through the support and initiative of Mayor Soria and the local government unit (LGU) of San Marcelino, the long-awaited facility was finally completed to serve residents and local organizations.

The newly inaugurated covered court is expected to become a central venue for community gatherings, sports activities, youth programs, and other important events in Barangay Sta. Fe.

During his message, Mayor Soria emphasized the importance of ensuring that public funds are spent on quality projects that directly benefit the people.

“Barangay Sta. Fe has long been close to our hearts. Whatever projects can be done here, we will continue to provide. We also include the needs of the church and the community in our plans,” Mayor Soria said.

He also cited other ongoing and upcoming projects of the LGU in Barangay Sta. Fe, including road improvements and the installation of stairways at the Sta. Fe Public Cemetery to ensure safer and more convenient access for residents.

Meanwhile, Barangay Captain Rico Diego Arquero expressed his gratitude to Mayor Soria and the LGU San Marcelino for continuously supporting the barangay through infrastructure and development projects.

The inauguration also coincided with the opening of the Sta. Fe SK Cup organized by the Sangguniang Kabataan of Sta. Fe under the leadership of SK Federation President Jeanne Joseph S. De Dios.

In his message, SK Chairman Jayjay thanked everyone who supported and participated in the event, saying the SK Cup is not only a sports league but also a symbol of unity, dedication, and the youth’s passion for sports in Barangay Sta. Fe.

The twin celebration highlighted the local government’s commitment to promoting youth development, sportsmanship, and stronger community engagement through meaningful infrastructure projects and grassroots programs.
