OLONGAPO CITY — The City Government of Olongapo responded to flooding in several low-lying communities brought about by the effects of Typhoon Maymay and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.
Portions of Barangays Gordon Heights, Sta. Rita, West Bajac-Bajac, West Tapinac, Ilalim, Kababae, Kalalake, and East Bajac-Bajac experienced flooding as rains continued to affect the city.
According to the city government, an estimated 300 families temporarily evacuated from their homes during the flooding. All evacuees have since returned to their respective residences after floodwaters subsided.
Mayor Lenj Paulino directed the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to provide basic goods and immediate assistance to families affected by the flooding.

“Our priority is the safety and welfare of our residents. We made sure that families who had to evacuate were provided with basic assistance, and we continue to monitor their situation as they return home,” Paulino said.
The mayor also assured residents that city government response teams remain on the ground to address the effects of the flooding.
As of the latest situation report, personnel from the City Engineering Office, barangays, and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) are conducting clearing and clean-up operations in affected communities.

The teams are removing light mud and debris left by the flood, particularly in areas where the water has already subsided, as part of efforts to restore normal conditions and ensure the safety and accessibility of affected communities.
Paulino urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to monitor official advisories, particularly as weather conditions may still change.
“We ask our residents to remain alert and cooperate with their barangay officials and our disaster response teams. The city government will continue to respond and assist communities affected by the flooding,” the mayor said.
The Olongapo City Government, through the CDRRMO and other concerned offices, continues to monitor the situation and stands ready to provide assistance should further flooding or other weather-related incidents occur.
