OLONGAPO CITY — The driver of the trailer truck involved in the fatal road accident that claimed the life of Jerry Arcilla on April 23, 2026, has publicly spoken for the first time regarding the incident.
In a media interview, Hector Macapagal denied allegations that he had gone into hiding, saying he is prepared to face the civil case filed against him and his employer, Aim High Logistics Philippines, a company owned by the Maningding family.
Macapagal said he personally extended assistance to the victim’s family by providing financial aid sourced from a cash advance he obtained from the company.
He also borrowed P20,000 from a friend to help shoulder the victim’s funeral expenses. According to Macapagal, he repeatedly appealed to his employer to provide assistance to the bereaved family.
However, nearly two months after the accident, he said no financial support had been extended by the Maningding family.
He also claimed that the company may have become displeased with him after he signed an undertaking that would allow the victim’s family to receive financial assistance.
Shortly afterward, he alleged that he was dismissed from his job and was no longer allowed to resume driving assignments.
Macapagal further disclosed that he refused to sign the insurance claim documents for the truck involved in the accident after noticing that the time indicated in the records did not match the actual time of the incident.
“Kung binayaran na lang sana ng Aim High Logistics Philippines ng Family Maningding yon claim ng pamilya ng namatay, na parang utang ko na lang, kaya ko naman pagtrabahuhan yon sa kanila kaso tinanggal nila ako sa trabaho, gustong gusto ko mabayaran si Arcilla kaso wala naman ako ibabayad kasi wala ako trabaho,” dagdag pa ni Macapagal.
The company has yet to issue a statement addressing Macapagal’s allegations.
