SAN MARCELINO, Zambales — A total of 125 confiscated modified mufflers or “open pipes” were destroyed by the Philippine National Police during a ceremonial crushing activity on May 25, 2026, in front of the San Marcelino Municipal Police Station as part of the town’s intensified campaign against noise pollution.

The operation was spearheaded by San Marcelino Chief of Police PMAJ. Exodus Rodriguez, together with Sangguniang Bayan Member and Transportation Committee Chairperson Hon. Jeffrey Pimentel, who represented Mayor Hon. Elvis Ragadio Soria during the activity.

Using a backhoe, authorities crushed the seized motorcycle mufflers that were confiscated from motorists apprehended for violating regulations prohibiting the use of excessively loud exhaust systems.

PMAJ. Rodriguez said the move highlights the commitment of local authorities to enforce laws aimed at protecting residents from unnecessary noise and maintaining public order within the municipality.

He added that the continued use of illegal open pipe exhaust systems has been a common source of complaints from residents, particularly at night when loud motorcycle sounds disrupt the peace in communities.

The San Marcelino police assured the public that operations against illegal motorcycle modifications will continue as part of ongoing efforts to promote discipline among motorists and ensure a quieter and more peaceful environment for residents.

Local officials likewise encouraged motorcycle owners to comply with existing traffic and environmental regulations to avoid penalties and support community-wide efforts in preserving public safety and order.
