SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — As the country moves toward cleaner and more sustainable transportation, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Zambales conducted a seminar aimed at promoting safety and compliance in the growing electric vehicle (EV) sector.
Held on June 11, 2026, at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center, the seminar focused on Philippine National Standards governing EV charging equipment, charging stations, and related accessories to ensure the safe and reliable operation of electric mobility infrastructure.
DTI Trade Industry Development Specialist Engr. Micaella Novesteras led the discussion, highlighting the importance of establishing standardized and compliant charging systems as the adoption of electric vehicles continues to expand across the country.
“Safety and quality standards are essential in building public confidence in electric mobility and ensuring the long-term sustainability of EV infrastructure,” Novesteras emphasized during her presentation.

Participants from various sectors were introduced to the latest standards and regulations covering EV charging facilities, as well as best practices in installation, operation, and maintenance.
The seminar also featured a briefing on the government’s E-Transport Loan Program, which provides financial assistance to small transport operators seeking to modernize their fleets through the acquisition of electric vehicles.
SBMA Chief of Staff Atty. Von F. Rodriguez and Deputy Administrator for Public Works and Technical Services Group Engr. Marco A. Estabillo joined the event, reaffirming the agency’s support for initiatives that advance green technologies and sustainable transport solutions within the Subic Bay Freeport.
Organizers said the activity forms part of broader efforts to prepare stakeholders for the transition to electric mobility while ensuring that charging infrastructure meets established safety and performance standards.
With the increasing demand for environmentally friendly transportation alternatives, SBMA and DTI continue to encourage industry players and transport operators to adopt technologies that contribute to reduced emissions and a more sustainable future.
