SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — The Port of Subic is positioning itself to capture more automotive import business after the Bureau of Customs (BOC) processed its first shipment of 100 BYD passenger vehicles for the Philippine domestic market, signaling potential growth in commercial cargo through the port.

The shipment, consisting of various BYD models and variants, was processed under a consumption entry, allowing the vehicles to enter the local market after complying with customs requirements.

BOC-Port of Subic District Collector Atty. Geniefelle P. Lagmay welcomed the development, expressing hope that the initial shipment would lead to sustained vehicle importation activities through Subic.

The arrival of the vehicles highlights the port’s potential to handle a wider range of commercial shipments as importers consider logistics options for bringing goods into the country.

The BOC coordinated with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) in facilitating the shipment, underscoring the role of inter-agency cooperation in supporting trade and cargo operations within the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

With its port facilities and logistics infrastructure, Subic serves as a gateway for cargo moving through Central Luzon and other markets. Additional vehicle shipments could broaden the port’s commercial activity and create opportunities for related logistics and distribution services.

The BOC said it remains committed to facilitating legitimate trade while ensuring compliance with customs regulations and import requirements.
