PASAY CITY — The Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) has intensified its campaign against transnational drug trafficking after intercepting parcels containing suspected illegal drugs worth more than ₱56 million, highlighting the persistent efforts of criminal groups to exploit international cargo and courier channels.
The operation resulted in the turnover of 14 abandoned and seized parcels to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) after authorities uncovered various prohibited substances concealed in shipments arriving from several countries in Asia, Europe, and the United States.
Customs officials said the parcels were initially flagged during routine X-ray screening due to suspicious images. Follow-up inspections, including 100-percent physical examination and K9 detection procedures conducted in coordination with PDEA, confirmed the presence of suspected illegal drugs hidden inside water filters, speakers, and assorted food products.

Authorities recovered approximately 7,005 grams of suspected shabu, 5,922 grams of high-grade marijuana or “kush,” 100 vape cartridges containing liquid marijuana, and 8,177 grams of opium poppy, with a combined estimated value of ₱56.01 million.
The seizure underscores the evolving tactics employed by drug syndicates, which increasingly use international parcel services to disguise and transport contraband into the country.
Customs Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno warned that the Bureau remains vigilant against attempts to use air cargo and parcel shipments as entry points for illegal drugs and other prohibited goods.
He stressed that the agency continues to strengthen its monitoring and inspection capabilities while maintaining close coordination with partner law enforcement agencies to intercept illicit shipments and hold those responsible accountable.
The successful operation was carried out by the Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force and PDEA, with all seized items formally turned over for laboratory examination and further investigation.
Under the leadership of District Collector Yasmin Obillos-Mapa, BOC-NAIA continues to reinforce border protection measures and safeguard international mail and cargo channels from being used by criminal organizations involved in illicit trade and drug smuggling.
