SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — The DOST-PAGASA has officially raised its ENSO Alert and Warning System status to El Niño Alert, signaling a high probability that the climate phenomenon will develop in the coming months and may persist into early 2027.

According to PAGASA, the potential onset of El Niño could bring drier-than-usual conditions across several parts of the country. These include prolonged dry spells and possible droughts, which may impact water resources, agriculture, and overall public welfare.

Despite this, the agency noted that above-normal rainfall may still occur in the western sections of the Philippines during the Habagat season, or southwest monsoon, which typically brings rains from June to September.

Authorities are urging local government units, farmers, and the public to take proactive measures to mitigate the possible effects of El Niño. This includes water conservation, crop planning adjustments, and close monitoring of weather advisories.

PAGASA continues to monitor climate conditions and will issue regular updates to ensure preparedness and timely response across affected areas.
