SAN MARCELINO, Zambales — The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) has completed a three-day Waste Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS) in Barangays Aglao and Buhawen from May 2 to 4, 2026, as part of efforts to improve the town’s solid waste management system.
The study, carried out under the directive of Mayor Elvis Ragadio Soria, was led by MENRO Officer Marvin Beltran. It involved a detailed assessment of household waste, categorizing materials into biodegradable, recyclable, residual, and special waste.
Beltran said the activity is aimed at generating reliable data that will guide the municipality in crafting more responsive and science-based waste management strategies.

The WACS is a key component in the preparation of San Marcelino’s 10-Year Solid Waste Management Plan, which seeks to introduce long-term, sustainable solutions to address the growing waste concerns in the community.
Local officials underscored the importance of community participation in the initiative, noting the active involvement of residents and barangay leaders, including Aglao Punong Barangay Mario Tagapuen and Buhawen Punong Barangay Edgardo Dueñas.
The municipal government also extended its appreciation to partner agencies and stakeholders whose support contributed to the successful implementation of the study, emphasizing that collaborative efforts remain essential in achieving a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
