Satellite monitoring shows two Low Pressure Areas (LPA 05a and LPA 05b) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility as of May 5, 2026, with PAGASA reporting a high chance of tropical depression development for one system.

The DOST-PAGASA is closely monitoring two Low Pressure Areas (LPAs) currently located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), with one system showing a strong likelihood of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

In its 8:00 AM weather update on May 5, 2026, PAGASA reported that the first weather disturbance, identified as LPA 05a, remains unlikely to intensify into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours. However, the second system, LPA 05b, has significantly increased its chances of development and is now under close observation due to its “high” probability of becoming a tropical cyclone.

While both weather systems are still outside PAR and have no direct effect on the country as of this time, state meteorologists emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring as conditions may rapidly change.

PAGASA urged the public, especially disaster risk reduction and management offices, to stay alert and keep track of official weather bulletins to ensure preparedness in case either system enters the PAR or intensifies further.

The agency continues to monitor the movement and development of these weather disturbances as part of its mandate to provide timely and accurate weather information to safeguard lives and property. (DOST-PAGASA)
