“We are committed to continuous modernization and innovation, supporting the Philippines’ broader goals of trade expansion and investment attraction. By this we mean expanding port capacity, upgrading facilities, and adopting cutting-edge technologies to improve cargo handling processes. These initiatives are expected to bolster Subic Bay’s competitiveness and contribute significantly to regional development,” added Chairman Aliño.
Gracing the forum was His Excellency President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. who underscored the importance of the LEC in pump priming the development of high-technology industries, logistics, manufacturing, connectivity and supply chain.
The Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) is a development initiative in the Philippines aimed at promoting economic growth and infrastructure development along key areas in Luzon. It focuses on enhancing industrial, commercial, and agricultural zones to boost investment, job creation, and regional competitiveness. Pioneered by 3 allied member states – the United States, Japan and the Philippines, the LEC membership has increased significantly into becoming a 12-member strong international economic corridor including Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, South Korea, Sweden, Spain and United Kingdom.
From its humble beginning as a primarily domestic development initiative, it has evolved into a regional platform for economic integration and growth in Southeast Asia. This broad membership leverages collective strengths and market opportunities, positioning the corridor as a key player in regional economic dynamics.
